I feel like the month of May went by very fast. I also feel that I have very little to show for it! I know for sure that I did not achieve my goals. Let's take a look.
Goal #1 The Chookshed Challenge.
I was supposed to be doing some ruler work as I quilted at least one small piece maybe more. I did dig them out of the to be quilted pile, I even found some backing fabrics and pulled out some pieces of batting. But that is as far as that got!
Failed.
Goal #2. Complete a Christmas Ornament.
Failed.
Goal #3. Sew or Crochet every day for at least 15 minutes.
A majority of days, yes, but every day?
Failed.
Goal #4. Try a new recipe and share...
Yes, I tried a new recipe. Did I share? No.
Failed.
So what did I do?
I wrote 12 posts in May, I must have done something...
I had a day out with my lovely husband, and of course I attended the Great New Zealand Quilt Show. Both great days and the latter led to some shopping of course. I also went along to the Altrusa craft sale, that led to more shopping and a squirrel which has taken up more than a little of my time. Early in the month I was busy playing with my heirloom linens again.
I got creative with some smaller pieces and made wee angels.
They were very simple to create and I do love them.
I did actually spend quite a bit of time playing with hexies in May. It's been a cold month, so I was happier in the warm sitting room than I would have been in the much cooler sewing room.
I will have to do a hexie update post soon.
Of course the latest squirrel is not a squirrel at all but a Bumblebee. I found an abandoned cross stitch at the craft sale and had to have it.
It's gone from this....
To this.
I'm in love with this bee and just couldn't resist getting stuck in on the day I brought it home. And several times since.
Winter has arrived here in NZ, there is snow on the mountains and it is cold.
I had to drive to Temuka the other day and rather than going on the state highway I took the back road. It is a much nicer drive, with hardly any traffic.
And plenty of opportunities to stop and take photos.
If you click on them you will see the snow on the mountains and on the lower image there are squalls of rain that didn't quite reach the ground.
Why was I driving to Temuka? Well the butcher visited the paddock behind Tony's parent house and a few days later he called to say I needed to collect...
My freezer is now bursting at the seams with beef!
And that was May....
What does June have in store for me?
That's another post.

I agree Lou - May went by in the blink of an eye!!! I felt like you achieved LOTS in May ... going by your May posts it seemed like you did. Yes its cold here now too - our fire goes fairly non stop. Good to have the freezer full - have you seen the price of meat!!
Yep, that's snow! I remember those hedges on the South Island. You might think you didn't achieve much, but actually - you did.
You say you have failed but I disagree. I have been reading lots of exploits and achievements on your blog and I think you had a happy month, as did I. I visited a real country butcher the other day and stocked up on mostly local meat. Probably 6 months worth in my freezer now.
Does it matter that you didn’t tuck all the boxes in May? No, not a jot. When you read your post, you still did get quite a bit done……..getting ahead on those projects. LOL. It does sound like winter has arrived for you. Your photos are stunning. Enjoy lots of hearty beef recipes, now that your freezer is full.
I think a few of us lost May
I think you did quite well for May.
We've still had 25s nearly every day but thankfully we now have some rain....
Your bumble bee is gorgeous. xx
I agree with you, the month did go by so quick. I love those little angels and that bee is amazing...
Hugz
You did not fail at all. You were very productive--you just wrote down the wrong goals! ;)
Love the angels--so cute! And that bee is pretty incredible.
Great shots of the snow on the distant mountains. And I recall passing hedges like that as we drove to and from Geraldine with you!
I agree. Wrong goals. You did lots else. Don't be SO hard on yourself!
